Watergates

[edit] Blurb
Great eating establishment, now open for breakfasts from 10am. Morning snacks, afternoon tea, pastries and cakes and an extensive menu by day, a wide range of wines and spirits.
[edit] Where
On Watergate Street under The Rows a stone's throw from The Cross. Opposite Tessuti and next to Morgan.
[edit] Atmosphere
Located in the few surviving cellar-like undercrofts on the Chester Rows, Watergates has a wonderfully Gothic atmosphere. The vaulted stone ceiling is hundreds of years old, but the staff are young and friendly and the food, from a smallish menu, is economically priced. Expect wooden tables and church chairs in a number of crypt-like rooms, all now non-smoking, but watch the steep steps on entry. Watergates has a roof terrace above the Rows and is also reputed to have a ghostly mariner, which I’ve yet to encounter.
[edit] Prices
Good for the expensive end of Chester
[edit] Food
Great food, served fast. They have just launched a new menu.
