[edit] The Walk

A Sunday which threatened rain was the first outing on this 11 km (6 mile) walk. Starting at Newton Lane Bridge, head through Upton along Newton Lane and Wealstone Lane until Upton Cross. You could just take a right and follow Heath Road up to the Wheatsheaf. However there is more to see in Upton, and you can reach the Wheatsheaf by a slightly longer route. That is the only pub on this route, so stop if you must. Take note of the water pump.

More information on Upton can be found here there is a surprising amount to see on what appears to be an suburban walk.

Follow Flag Lane and cross the A41. Keep following Flag Lane through the zoo. You will probably see deer and elephants through the bushes. After the zoo follow the hill down to Caughall Bridge, and get on the tow-path. The tow-path will take you to Backford Bridge (roughly half-way through the walk), then on to a railway viaduct. Head on past the golf course to Knolls Bridge, then under Parkgate Road and down to Abbot Meads. Here, you can get back onto the disused railway and it is a straight walk back to Newton Lane Bridge.

Given the route is all on tarmac path, this could also be done on a bike.
