[edit] Blurb

Opened in August 2008, this is a classy, up-market establishment with affordable prices and helpful, pleasant staff.

[edit] Where

Out of town to the north, just on the far side of the River Gowy between Mickle Trafford and Bridge Trafford.

[edit] Atmosphere

In March 2009 they had an excellent harpist playing evocative music under quiet yet sufficient lighting. The building is said to be a 400 year old dairy farm converted into a sophisticated restaurant - however some of the beams show clear signs of being band-sawn 9x3 stained-up. It wouldn't have taken much work with a plane to add some character.

[edit] Prices

The example menu on the website did not originally not quote prices, which can be off-putting for some, but the prices are in the "high/moderate" band, with mains £15-18. They have now changed this.

[edit] Food

I was there with a large party and all were impressed by their choices. I gorged myself on a starter of richly seasoned and perfectly cooked mussels, followed by an ample portion of pink and flavoursome roast duck with chips and ended with a selection of cheeses. Some of the reviewers on Chester@Large found the portions small.

[edit] Conclusion

Excellent entertainment, good food, pleasant surroundings and brilliant service. Should definitely be a contender for an award at the Food and Drink Festival 2009 (I was right - they won the best newcomer).
