Gamul House is located halfway down Lower Bridge Street in Chester city centre.
By the later 18th century the intensified development of sites within the old city centre led to its desertion by Chester's wealthiest inhabitants. Gamul House had ceased to be a private residence by the 1760s and was occupied by a dancing academy and a boarding school. By 1831 the house and its outbuildings were divided into "inferior dwellings".
