Chester has a number of festivals taking place in the city throughout the year. The bigger ones are listed separately under Attractions, but the smaller ones are listed here.

[edit] Literature Festival

Every autumn, Chester has a month-long celebration of the written word, with events all over the city. The LitFest is becoming increasingly high profile, with many famous writers and celebrities coming to speak at events. This is probably now the most important festival city in the city alongside the Chester Food and Drink Festival.

The annual Fashion Festival sees events taking place all over the city, The Mall Grosvenor, Chester Zoo, The Forum Shopping Centre, Chester Cathedral and a week-long series of events at Cheshire Oaks. The festival features young designers, hair stylists, make-up artists, haute couture and high-street style.

[edit] Kite Festival

The annual Kite Festival comprises demonstrations, kite-making workshops and the chance to fly your own kite... and witness a world record attempt. Many kite clubs from around the UK are usually present, some of which are kite professionals showing off their skills.

An annual festival of folk music and events, with ceilidhs, workshops, singarounds, sessions and a craft fair.

[edit] St Werburgh's Festival

A new event for 2007 celebrating the 1100th anniversary of a Mercian princess who became a nun and then Abbess, celebrated with Viking re-enactments and street parades.

[edit] One Earth

The Wildlife Trust annual environmental arts event takes place in Grosvenor Park.Events include hands-on T-shirt printing, foil beetle and dragonfly making, displays. The event is free.
