[edit] Faulkner Street

Faulkner Street in Hoole is the main shopping area for the residents of this neighbourhood.

Leaving the city centre and taking the A56 Hoole Road out of town, Faulkner Street can be found about a third of the way up Hoole Road after crossing the Hoole Railway Bridge.

In recent years, the council has attempted to promote Brook Street as Chester's equivalent of London's Notting Hill, but it would be fairer to say that Faulkner Street is the local version of Notting Hill.

Faulkner Street, like Brook Street, has an eclectic mix of shops and pubs, but with a distinctly more upmarket feel. Take a look at the Local Facilities section on the Hoole page for more info.

[edit] Shops

Shops include Hopton's the butcher, the Bricklands fishmonger, a bakery, a cobbler, a greengrocer, two gift shops and two florists. Two delicatessens, Sullivan and Allan and Piquant closed in the first half of 2007, but Sullivan and Allan reopened as Deli-vert under new ownership in August 2007, Snapdragon. There are several convenience stores as well, plus a couple of hairdressers and a barber shop, and several off-licences. Around the corner in Charles Street there are more shops, including the wine merchant Scatchard's. There are three banks - NatWest, HSBC and Barclays - around Faulkner Street.

[edit] Pubs

There are several pubs along Faulkner Street. The Bromfield Arms sits on the corner of School Street halfway along. The Faulkner is almost opposite while Royal Oak is next door to the Post Office.

[edit] Restaurants and takeaways

The Village Bistro just around the corner in Charles Street is one of the best local restaurants and has won several awards over the years. Cafe.Com on Faulkner Street is Hoole's only internet cafe. For takeaway food, there is the Seabreeze on Faulkner Street.
