[edit] Blurb
During the week this is the black-cab drivers' pub, and life revolves around the big screen telly (mostly football), the pool table (winner stays on), copious quantities of beer (they always can get a cab home) and discussion about which is the best shade of black for a cab. On weekend evenings, it becomes the bikers' pub with live rock bands (free entry).
[edit] Where
The bottom end of Hoole Road is a well-lit pleasant residential area a short walk from the centre of town and there is a chip-shop/kebab house/Chinese just across the street and a curry house a few doors down. It's the last place one would expect to find a bikers' pub.
[edit] Atmosphere
On weekdays, this is the typical football and beer establishment, with a middle-aged crowd of stalwart drinkers. Not a lager lout in sight. It doesn't get overfull, but it's not that big - one can usually get a seat.
At weekends, the bikers turn up and it's often standing room only, especially with a rock band taking up much of the floor space and various bikers, wives and daughters having a dance. Not an air-guitarist in sight. The bikers are a peaceable crowd and there is never any trouble. If you are expecting a lot of violent, tattooed, drug-crazed, leather-clad lunatics then you will be disappointed (except for the tattoos and leather). This is a crowd of people that have known each other for years and are just having their Friday and Saturday night out.
[edit] Prices
Medium pub prices.
[edit] Food
Crisps, nuts and pickled eggs.
[edit] Conclusion
Drinking and football in the week, rock and leather at the weekend. Never any trouble.
