This lovely intimate bar in Handbridge, formerly The Red Lion, has sprung to life with new management. It's a great place to go for a nice drink and the staff are always up for a chat.

Overleigh Road, Handbridge. It's the main road from the bridge in Chester.

When you step inside it's very relaxed with chilled music and comfy couches. Sophisticated but not pretentious. The recent refurb has done it wonders, with stylish leather seats and wallpaper set in low lighting.

Quality doesn't always mean expense. Expect a good selection of wine, beer, spirits and cocktails ranging from about £3-6.

The Bar and Courtyard has recently started offering a range of mouth-watering paninis and soup. The cocktail selection is magnificent and the staff are happy to make anything off the menu if you're in the mood for something a little different. You can also snack on some bar snacks while enjoying a pint of traditional ale.
