Saturday night baby! SAT-UR-DAY-NIGHT! Chester on a Saturday night is something to behold that’s for sure. As youngsters from Chester, North Wales and Warrington congregate within the city walls intent on getting wasted. Watch out Brannigan’s – they’re coming to get you!

Not quite so for this little bar come club come pub. I say that because I don’t really know what to class it as. Amber Lounge serves food in the day, is a pub in the weeknights and a club on Friday and Saturday.

I got there at about five to ten on Saturday (to avoid paying a 5 pound entrance fee, which comes into action at 10pm precisely) and it was busy. Amber Lounge is not a big place, but they can certainly cram them in. The entrance fires you straight to the bar, which is a doubles only affair, meaning that you end up spending a lot of money and getting really quite drunk. I bought 2 bottles of Budvar for a little over 6 pounds. As you see not too cheap.

Amber Lounge tends to start emptying out a little bit after 10-11 o clock as revellers make there way to the glamorous RB’s (Rosies to everyone else) and this means that there does tend to be a little bit more room to dance on the “Im not too small to be a dancefloor” dancefloor. If you can get a seat then you’re sorted, and in for a very enjoyable, very expensive night out. If you can't get a seat then you will still have fun, but spend more time skipping out of everyone’s way.

I think that Amber Lounge is popular because it offers a mature night out than, say Rosies, which can tend to be full of 18 years olds. The people going to Amber Lounge are generally mid twenties to thirty, which seems to provide a bit more of a sophisticated atmosphere. But only a bit.
