1000 places to eat before you die
From Chester Wiki
always worth starting this one...
- Pastarazzi, Chester
- The Well of the Turk in Chania, Crete. Away from the bustling harbour front (charming as it is) and its hordes of tourist eateries, the Well is tucked away nearby in a residential backstreet and offers a great choice of dishes from around the Med. Eclectic and tasty, in a historic setting. Not cheap, but who cares? You won't regret it.
- Poklisar in Dubrovnik, Croatia. An outside table is the perfect place to dine on a warm evening - right on the historic harbour, you can watch the fishing schooners disgorge tourists on their return from a day in the Elafiti islands. Then order the freshest, most exquisitely cooked calamari you have ever eaten and try and convince yourself you are not in paradise...
- Chartier Paris, France. On a 5-star scale, the food - standard Parisian brasserie fare - merits 2.5 to 3, but you go here for the setting. You can't book so be prepared to queue, then gasp at the historic Victorian décor of panelled walls, brass fittings and the original overhead racks that Parisian workers would sling their toolbags into before dining then heading home. An experience.
- Good Friends, Salmon Lane (off Commercial Road), London E14. Reportedly the first Chinese take-away on London. The eat-in menu is vast, as fast as you like and well executed. And you are probably sitting next to a Chinese millionaire.
- Maxime Denneweg, s'Gravenhaag
- Copper Chimney, Dr. Annie Besant Rd., Worli, Mumbai 400 018, Beyond Downtown: Chowpatty to Worli
- Dino's, Old Harbour, Xania, Kriti. We challenge you to finish Dino's legendary mixed grill for two. Plain, simple Cretan cooking - a huge platter of lamb chops, sausages, steak, ribs, chicken and meatballs, with great chips. Wash it down with a bottle of Dino's house red. An inexpensive, honest meal.
- Hotel Savoy Mussoorie.
- Astier, Paris. Unassuming from the outside, Astier boasts a daily menu based on what was bought fresh and in season at that morning's market. The highlight is the enormous cheeseboard boasting at least 30 cheeses to choose from. Always a tough one. Especially if the Vacherin is in season.
- Les Halles New York
- La Coupole - 102 bd. du Montparnasse, 14e (the waiters are as rude and inattentive as ever, and the patrons would have it no other way)
- Pathum, - Willemsstraat 16, Amsterdam. Traditional Thai cooking - inexpensive, unpretentious, authentic. Owned by a Dutchman who spent years in Pathum province and came home to share his love of Thai food.
- The Gallery, Colombo, Sri Lanka
- Le Vacherin, 76-66 South Parade Chiswick, Ealing,
